Skateboard The Alt was one of the first skate shops in Minnesota. We started carrying the top skateboard brands in 1979 while skateboarding was in its infancy. We started the first two skateparks ever in Minnesota. The first was a small, cramped, dingy park in a garage behind our first location on Hennepin Ave, called P.I.S.S. (Private Indoor Skate Spot). As more and more skaters found out about the park, it was obvious we needed to expand. Thus spawned The Twin Cities Skate Oasis (TCSO). This park lasted until The Third Lair purchased it in the early 90s. The Alt is the pioneering force behind the Minnesota skate scene.

We have complete boards starting at $109.95. We custom build your board for you while you wait. You pick the deck, trucks, wheels, and bearings and we give you the grip tape and hardware for free. It usually takes us around 10 minutes to completely build the board once you have picked out all of the parts. Our custom completes range from $110 to $160+.

We stock one of the largest amount of longboards in Minnesota. During the summer, we generally have almost every Sector 9 longboard made. We also carry a few locally made brands like Subsonic and Northern Pine. Our complete longboards range from $129.95 to 219.95. All sector 9 longboards are under $189.95. If we do not have a certain board in stock, ask us to order it for you.

    We carry helmets from ProTec, Bell, Giro, and Triple8. We have a good selection of elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. We also have longboard slide gloves and bmx shin guards.
